Concept 01 - Minimalist Melbourne

Styling inspired by existing bicycle share bikes, with the chunkiness required for bike durability used as a feature through the main frame. Bike features shaft drive, concealed within the frame, 3 speed hub gears and solid puncture proof tyres.

Helmet is stored in the storage box on the bike when not in use. Disposable foam inners are vended from the bicycle station, and are available in 3 sizes. This ensures helmets are kept clean, and also allows for more comfortable and safer fitting of helmets to different people.

Concept 02 - Multifaceted Melbourne
This bike is inspired by the increasing emergence of angular forms around Melbourne. From Vault in the 1980's through to Storey Hall and Federation Square, and finally the new Metro Trains graphics and Melbourne Council logo, this trend seems to be forging a unique Melbourne image. The bike is formed of superplastic aluminium for a lightweight yet strong frame which also shows off the different faces of the design. The helmet matches the bike styling, and also incorporates the hard outer shell with velcro-in inner lining system.

For both concepts we propose a payment system for short term users whereby a deposit is charged to the users credit card, and in return the user is given a smartcard. This smartcard is used to unlock a bike from its stand, or to lock a bike if it is left on its own. If the user then wishes to make further journeys by bike, they need only scan the smartcard on a bike stand. Once they have finished using the system, the smartcard is returned and the deposit refunded. For long term users, a monthly or yearly smartcard can be purchased without a deposit, or the public transport Myki card can also be used on the system.
